This map summarizes the result of a trash surveys done in 2003-4 by the Anacostia Watershed Network (thanks to them for the map and form.) The methodology used is described in a separate publication that includes a 1-page form to be filled in by volunteers that take the survey. Note the colored segments of the tributaries that are categorized as blue for "Very Light" if less than 10 items per 100 feet, green is "Light" if between 10 and 25/100ft, yellow "Moderate" between 25 and 50/100ft, or red "Heavy" if over 50/100feet. Only items larger than a bottlecap are counted, and these are identified in 15 numbered categories on the 1-page form that you can find in the publication
