Reel & Meal "Dark Water Rising" about Animal Rescue after Katrina

Monday Aug 17, 2009, Reel & Meal will show "Dark Water Rising" at New Deal Cafe, with optional $13 meal beginning at 6:30pm, and the film at 7pm. The film captures the heroic volunteer efforts to rescue more than 50,000 companion animals left in peril after their guardians fled New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, or were forced by FEMA to leave animals during the mandatory evacuation and later were prevented from returning to retrieve them. Post-film discussion leader is Scotlund Haisley, Senior Director for Emergency Services for the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Scotlund oversees an animal rescue team that responds to natural disasters and man-made emergencies. Full Story
